The Best Chocolate Chip Cookies

Soft, chewy, bakery-style chocolate chip cookies with crisp edges and gooey centers. This classic American cookie recipe is quick to make and reliably delicious every time.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup salted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 0.5 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp sea salt
  • 2 cups chocolate chips (12 oz)

Method
 

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line three baking sheets with parchment paper and set aside.
  2. In a medium bowl, mix flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and sugars until combined.
  4. Beat in eggs and vanilla until light and fluffy (about 1 minute).
  5. Mix in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  6. Add chocolate chips and mix well.
  7. Roll 2–3 tablespoons of dough into balls and place evenly spaced on prepared cookie sheets.
  8. Bake for 8–10 minutes, removing when cookies are just barely starting to turn brown.
  9. Let cookies sit on the baking pan for 5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.

Notes

Do not overbake,  the cookies should look slightly doughy when removed from the oven, as they firm up while cooling. Reduce oven temperature by 25°F when using convection. Recipe yields 36 cookies using 2 tablespoons of dough per cookie. Metric conversions are provided in the original post.
