Main Ingredients
  • 1 pound fresh carrots, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch thick rounds You can also use baby carrots.
  • 1/4 cup packed brown sugar Both dark and light brown sugar can be used.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, cut into pieces Can substitute with olive oil or coconut oil for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Adjust salt to taste.
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper Freshly ground is recommended for best flavor.
  • 1/4 cup water Can use vegetable or chicken broth instead.
Optional Ingredients
  • 1 pinch ground cinnamon For added warmth.
  • 1 teaspoon fresh orange juice Can substitute with lemon juice for tang.

Method

Preparation
  1. Peel and slice the fresh carrots into 1/4-inch thick rounds.
Combine Ingredients
  1. In a large skillet, add the sliced carrots, brown sugar, butter, salt, pepper, and water. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
Cooking
  1. Place the skillet over medium heat and cover it with a lid. Let it cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  2. Once the carrots are tender, remove the lid and allow the water to evaporate, stirring frequently for about 5 minutes until the sugar caramelizes into a glaze.
  3. Check if the carrots are tender and coated in a brown glaze.
Final Touch
  1. If desired, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or drizzle in some orange juice just before removing from heat, stirring to combine.
Serve
  1. Remove from heat and let cool slightly before serving. Present the glistening carrots on a platter.
