Ingredients
  

Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 teaspoons red food coloring (gel) gel works best for vibrant color
Dry Ingredients
  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.25 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Mix-ins
  • 1.5 cups crushed Oreos about 15 cookies
  • 0.5 cup white chocolate chips (optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract and red food coloring.
  4. In another bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  5. Gradually mix the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  6. Fold in the crushed Oreos and white chocolate chips if using.
  7. Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Baking
  1. Bake for 12-15 minutes until the edges are set but the centers are still soft.
  2. Allow to cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

For extra chocolate flavor, add chocolate chips to the dough. Experiment with different types of crushed cookies for unique flavors. Serve these cookies warm; they taste even better fresh out of the oven!
