  • 1 lb sourdough or French bread, cut into chunks For best flavor
  • 8 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (whole or 2%)
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 6-7 medium ripe bananas, chopped
Streusel Topping
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour For streusel
  • 3/4 cup firmly packed brown sugar For streusel
  • 1/2 cup salted butter For streusel, softened

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, heavy cream, sugar, and brown sugar.
  2. Add the bread chunks and bananas to the mixture, stirring gently to coat.
  3. Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish, spreading it evenly.
  4. In another bowl, combine the flour, brown sugar, and softened butter for the streusel. Mix until crumbly.
  5. Sprinkle the streusel over the bread mixture.
  6. Cover and refrigerate overnight to allow the flavors to meld.
Cooking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Bake uncovered for 50 minutes or until golden brown and set in the middle.
  3. Let cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm!

Notes

Garnish with powdered sugar and fresh banana slices. Serve with maple syrup, whipped cream, or yogurt. Best served warm.
