  • 2 lbs ground beef Use lean ground beef for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup Italian-style breadcrumbs Panko breadcrumbs can be substituted for a lighter texture.
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese Nutritional yeast can be used as a vegan alternative.
  • 2 large eggs Beaten before adding.
  • 1/4 cup milk Chicken broth or a dairy-free substitute can be used.
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Fresh garlic is preferred.
  • 2 Tbsp chopped fresh parsley Can use 2 tsp of dried parsley if fresh is unavailable.
  • 1 tsp kosher salt Adjust based on preference.
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning Feel free to create your own herb blend.
  • 1 jar marinara sauce (48 oz) Adds flavor and moisture.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, Parmesan cheese, eggs, milk, minced garlic, parsley, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning in a large bowl. Mix until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into 1½-inch meatballs and place them on a plate.
Cooking
  1. Pour the marinara sauce evenly over the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Gently place the meatballs into the marinara sauce ensuring they are covered.
  3. Cover the slow cooker and set it to low for about 3 hours or high for 2 hours.
  4. Check that meatballs have reached an internal temperature of 165°F before serving.
  5. Let the meatballs rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider adding a splash of red wine to the sauce. Customize by offering grated cheese and fresh herbs at the table.
