Preparation
- Peel the onions and slice off the top, leaving the root intact.
- Soak the onions in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes.
- In a bowl, mix the flour, paprika, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Remove the onions from the buttermilk and dredge them in the flour mixture.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a deep pan to about 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the onions in the hot oil for 3-5 minutes or until golden brown.
- For the ranch dip, mix mayonnaise, sour cream, dill, chives, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl.
- Drain the fried onions on paper towels and serve with the ranch dip.
