Ingredients
  

For the Pasta and Broccoli
  • 2 cups broccoli florets Use fresh florets for the best flavor. Frozen is an alternative.
  • 1.5 cups orzo pasta Cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  • 2 cups chicken broth Use low-sodium for better control over salt levels.
  • 1 cup heavy cream Gradually pour and stir in to incorporate.
For the Cheese
  • 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese Freshly grated is preferred for better melting.
  • 0.5 cups grated Parmesan cheese Use freshly grated for a rich flavor.
Aromatics and Seasonings
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced Sauté until fragrant, being careful not to burn.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil For sautéing the garlic.
  • 1 tablespoon butter Enhances flavor.
  • smoked paprika, to taste
  • garlic powder, to taste
  • onion powder, to taste
  • salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste
  • Italian seasoning, to taste
For Garnish
  • fresh parsley For a pop of color.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Heat the olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant and golden.
Cooking
  1. Stir in the broccoli and cook for 3-4 minutes, until slightly tender but still bright green.
  2. Add the orzo to the skillet, mixing it with the broccoli, and toast it for about 1 minute.
  3. Pour in the chicken broth and bring the mixture to a simmer. Let it cook, uncovered, for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  4. Once the orzo is cooked, reduce heat to low and stir in the heavy cream, cheddar cheese, and parmesan until melted and creamy.
  5. Season with smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning to taste.
Serving
  1. Serve the dish warm, garnished with fresh parsley.
