  • 4 cups all-purpose flour Essential flour for the bread.

  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast Required for leavening.
  • 1.5 cups warm water Should be around 110°F (43°C).
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil or melted butter Adds moisture to the dough.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add the oil and salt, then gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  5. Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.
  6. Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

Enhance flavor by adding herbs or garlic powder. Customize by substituting some all-purpose flour for whole wheat. Serve toasted for breakfast options.
