Preparation
- In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until frothy.
- Add the oil and salt, then gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9×5 inch loaf pan.
- Cover and let it rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
- Let it cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before slicing.
Notes
Enhance flavor by adding herbs or garlic powder. Customize by substituting some all-purpose flour for whole wheat. Serve toasted for breakfast options.
