  • 1 cup buttermilk Helps tenderize the chicken.
  • 1 lb boneless chicken breasts or thighs Trim excess fat and cut into pieces if desired.
Starch/Pasta
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Creates a wonderful crust.
Seasoning/Spice Blend
  • 1 teaspoon paprika Part of the spice blend.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Part of the spice blend.
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder Part of the spice blend.
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt Enhances flavor.
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper Enhances flavor.
Optional Finishing Ingredients
  • as needed cooking spray For a golden crust without excess oil.

Preparation
  1. Step 1: Marinate the Chicken - Place chicken pieces in a bowl, add buttermilk, and marinate for at least 30 minutes, or up to overnight in the refrigerator.
  2. Step 2: Prepare the Coating - In another bowl, mix together flour, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper.
  3. Step 3: Coat the Chicken - Remove chicken from buttermilk and dredge in the flour mixture until well-coated.
  4. Step 4: Spray the Air Fryer - Preheat air fryer to 380°F (190°C) and spray basket lightly with cooking spray.
  5. Step 5: Arrange the Chicken - Place coated chicken pieces in a single layer in the air fryer basket.
Cooking
  1. Step 6: Air Fry the Chicken - Cook at 380°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes, flipping halfway through for even browning.
  2. Step 7: Serve and Enjoy - Remove chicken and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
